Veganism and vegetarianism
I genuinely admire people who become veg-whatever out of conviction. In some ways, I wish I could do the same.

But there's a wave of militant veganism around that's less than pleasant. In India, it's linked with Hindu nationalism and people have been killed on suspicion of keeping beef in their house.

Who will rid us of this dietary political correctness?

Nothing wrong with cutting down on meat and dairy for the sake of your health.
I have cut down massively on red meat some days I don't have any meat.
I don't agree with people lecturing though.

If you despise factory farming and the general treatment of animals, you can hardly call that 'political correctness'.

Gavros, you’re a vegan ain’t you.
My brother went meat free last year and said he’s never felt better. Less bloated and more energy. Think he still eats fish but that’s it.
Keep thinking about doing it but love a steak.

Whats wrong with lecturing? You get billions of pounds of marketing for factory farmed animals every year.
I find it hard giving up meat because it tastes good but I try to avoid cheap shit stuff grown in hell, fed with shit and drugged up.

Gave up meat 6 years ago. Don't agree with animals suffering just for us to eat. The meat industry is disgusting and most humans are ignorant cunts.
Meat eaters are so casual With it too. They panic if there is no meat on their plate every meal, and are constantly snacking on it and eat the poorest quality without a thought too. People eat too much meat in any case, quite sickening if truth be told.

Re: Veganism and vegetarianism
Pretty topical.

Since I started working in the City 15 years ago I worked out that I'd put on 3 stone. My diet was pretty awful, and I reckoned out of the 21 meals I'd have a week, 15 or 16 of them would contain meat. I'd also eat shit loads of dairy as well - probably with every single meal and a load of snacks as well.

I decided I'd go cold turkey the day after my birthday, which was 3 weeks ago. Bought a book called BOSH which was vegan recipies, and haven't had a single animal based product since then. If ever I've done a diet before I've always got bored after a week, but I've genuinely found this very easy. The recipes are so nice, portions massive and there's plenty of snacks you can have as well. Ignore the people that tell you a snack is a piece of celery or a carrot stick - you can have Oreo's, bourbon biscuits, party rings, popcorn etc etc. Loads of restaurants and shops are set up for it now as well. Walk into Pret or EAT and they'll have 5 or 6 different options labelled up.

My diet used to be pretty horrendous, and I never thought in a million years I could even go a day being a vegan. Now, 3 weeks in and 12lbs lighter and I'm still finding it really, really easy. I'm certainly not saying i'll be a vegan forever, but the amount of research out there that says how bad loads of meat and dairy is for you, I'll keep going until I get bored.

If anyone's got a few pounds to shift, I'd massively recommend it. Fuck all the hippie vegan tossers that preach to the world about animal rights etc. But the thought of being back to my weight as an 18 year old as a result of changing my diet for a few months is pretty amazing.

I gave it a go a few years ago and lasted about a month. Was doing well until I went into Tippy's Cafe in East Ham after a game and she asked if I wanted the usual, which contained chicken, and I relented and fell off the wagon.
I'm all for the animal welfare aspect as well as the health benefits, though I didn't notice anything at the time.

Not eaten red meat for over 25 years, purely cos I don't like the taste, eat chicken and Fish though. Happily cook a steak for my dog as I don't reflect on the animal it came from. Would happily kill it too.

Re: Veganism and vegetarianism
People who eat meat are far more forceful of their opinions than those that are vegetarian.

I've always been a vegetarian but never told anyone that eating meat is bad for them as it's up to you what you eat.

On many occasions I've been told by carnivores that everyone should eat meat and that I need to introduce meat into my diet.

Personally, I don't think eat or not eating meat will make you more or less unhealthy. It's other things such as fats and sugars that will damage you more than introducing or cutting out meat.

I believe scott_d has never killed anyone for keeping beef in their house.

However, militant Hindus have killed suspected "cow murderers".

Despite there being a whole Indian state, Kerala, with loads of HINDU beef-eaters.

To all the Veggies out there, respect.

Just mind that you don't snap your arm when picking up your lentil burger.
